Phase 1 Construction Plan

Floor Plan 1

Floor Plan 2

Dear Church Family,

Do you remember this past December when I challenged our whole congregation to “Get Ready” because 2008 was going to be a pivotal year in the life of our church?   Well…are you ready?  This is the letter that I’ve been waiting nearly five years to write!  After many hours of prayer, meetings and hard work, our Building Steering Committee recently received the final plans and pricing for new building on North Main Street.  And, I am pleased to announce that on Sunday, March 2nd following each morning worship service, the Building Steering Committee will be asking the church to formally vote on the building design for phase one construction as well as the guaranteed maximum price provided by our builder, the GL Barron Company.  The scope and pricing of our phase one construction is outlined below:

Construction of Worship Facility and Education Building (7.3 million)

The educational building is designed to accommodate all of our current needs as well as provide flexibility for future growth.  The 37,000 foot facility provides ample room for nursery and pre-school needs, children’s ministry and AWANA’s space, youth worship, classroom and gathering space, senior adult assembly areas and classrooms, on-campus group space that can “double” as a large fellowship or gathering area, a large hospitality space for meetings and gatherings, and office space for staff.

The worship space is designed with flexibility and future use in mind.  The 600-seat facility also boasts a large hospitality area that will relieve some of our “overcrowded hallways” on Sunday mornings.  The flexible design of this facility will allow the church to use this space in the future for any number of possible needs (gymnasium, education space, youth or children’s area, fellowship hall, etc.)

Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment and Audio-Visual for the Worship Facility and Education Building (1 million)

In addition to the “bricks and sticks” construction of the building itself, we will be purchasing furniture, fixtures, audio-visual and other infrastructure for the new building.  These costs will include new sanctuary seating, audio-visual equipment for image magnification of church services, and furniture, equipment and appliances for all ministry areas.  Infrastructure needs will include items such as power and transformer connections, phone equipment, and technology wiring and equipment.

Proposed Contingency Fund by the Building Steering Committee ($400,000)

The Building Steering Committee is recommending that we allocate $400,000 for unforeseen needs that may arise during the construction process.  If additional needs do not surface during the building process, the contingency fund will not be utilized.

Total Projected Cost of Construction Not To Exceed (8.7 million)

In an effort to provide you with additional information about the new building, the Building Steering Committee has included a packet of drawings with this letter.  In addition to this written information, the Building Steering Committee will be hosting a “Question and Answer Night” on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary.  Should you have additional questions or comments about the new building, please feel free to contact anyone on the committee.  You may also contact Associate Pastor Mark Stafford in the church office if you have questions or comments.

Words cannot describe how excited I am about what God is up to at Second!  And I am confident that (in the recent words of our friend Brother Paul Burleson) this new building will be an exceptional “tool” to reach our ever growing community with the live-saving message of Jesus Christ.

Remember, I Love You,

Tommy
