Unmerited Favor
Ever experience unmerited favor??? I was fortunate to enjoy some today.....It is refreshing when fellow human beings choose to extend favor over possible anger, frustration and expressed disappointment.
The order had arrived on time however the content was not as requested. I had looked all over the internet to make sure that the needs and desires of this organization were met. I thought I was covering all of my bases.... Sizes taken, orders placed, out of stock issues resolved......I thought. The shipment arrives, color correct, all of the pieces, however as I looked closer there was a small difference from what was expected....I had no choice but deliver the merchandise; after all they needed the order today...
As I opened the box with the customer I explained the whole process. Ordering, having the order canceled, searching numerous sources who could fill the order and ship on time...finally finding a solution and feeling great about the accomplishment...however it was not perfect. It was at this moment that I experienced grace....form one person to another. While I was truly sorry, I was more struck by the response....simple grace and appreciation for what was done. A choice to focus on what was, rather that what was not....
I am reminded that Christ extends to us all grace....unmerited favor, a positive, loving, response to us. No matter how perfect I try to be, I always fall short. It is his nature to extend grace. If I am called a Christian, “little Christ”, then my life should reflect grace......unmerited favor to all....
Today I am thankful that God, through his Son, extends grace to me. In salvation and in daily shortcomings. My challenge is to extend it to everyone else....beginning with those who are closest to me.....
